On today’s very special episode of Songmess we bring you a force of nature, as best friends Javier Arce and Sonya Carmona join us for a raucous, chileguaro-fueled kiki. Javier is known as the frontman of popular tropi-pop band Cocofunka and Sonya plays bass and sings backup in garage-rock darlings Las Robertas, - two of Costa Rica’s most visible bands working today. Our conversation touches on their time in each band, as well as past projects and solo careers. We’re also talking about their recent visit to Coachella, Javier’s extensive production work with many of our indie faves and the shifting scales of gender and sexuality in the music industry.
